Abandoned Camp

The Abandoned Camp is a deserted campsite with a wool tent, a campfire ringed by cushions, and chests and barrels left behind. It generates in the Overworld, across 18 biome types - Meadow, Cherry Grove, Forest, Birch Forest, Old Growth Birch Forest, Flower Forest, Windswept Forest, Dappled Forest, Taiga, Snowy Taiga, Old Growth Spruce Taiga, Old Growth Pine Taiga, Sparse Jungle, Bamboo Jungle, Swamp, Savanna, Wooded Badlands, and Pale Garden - which makes the Abandoned Camp moderately uncommon to come across as you explore.

Height-wise the Abandoned Camp sits in the Y 63 to Y 160 band, which narrows down where to look. Abandoned camps generate on the surface of 18 Overworld biomes, from forests, taigas and jungles to swamps, savannas, meadows and the Pale Garden. They use one placement grid of 37 chunks with at least 8 chunks between attempts, close to the spacing of villages, and each biome picks its own camp variant from that grid. One structure tag covers all of them, so a single command finds the nearest camp of any kind.

Added back in Minecraft 26.3, its most recognisable trait is captured in one line: a tent of white wool stairs with a campsite next to it.

On Java Edition the quickest method is the command /locate structure #minecraft:abandoned_camp, which prints the coordinates of the nearest Abandoned Camp and the distance to it.

Without commands, head for one of the Abandoned Camp's biomes (Meadow, Cherry Grove, Forest, Birch Forest, Old Growth Birch Forest, Flower Forest, Windswept Forest, Dappled Forest, Taiga, Snowy Taiga, Old Growth Spruce Taiga, Old Growth Pine Taiga, Sparse Jungle, Bamboo Jungle, Swamp, Savanna, Wooded Badlands, and Pale Garden) and search the Y 63 to 160 band. Because it is moderately uncommon, plan on a moderate trek before you stumble onto an Abandoned Camp.

Use /locate structure #minecraft:abandoned_camp to find the nearest camp of any biome. Camps generate on the surface of forests, taigas, jungles, savannas, swamps, meadows and the other biomes listed above, about as far apart as villages. Every camp chest holds an Abandoned Camp Map, which points to another camp.

Once inside, camp chests always hold one Abandoned Camp Map, pointing to a camp in one of eight biomes, plus four to six rolls of travel gear such as a compass, leads, a saddle and bundles, and two rolls of tools or copper armour. Some camps also have an oxidized copper chest with its own loot table: it always contains an explorer map to a bigger structure, often ingots and a potion, and a diamond about one time in three. Barrels hold food, straw beds, cushions and camping supplies.

Some rewards here are guaranteed every time: Abandoned Camp Map (in chests) (1) and Explorer Map (in the copper chest) (1). Those are not random rolls - the Abandoned Camp always provides them, which is a big part of why it is worth seeking out.

Among the Abandoned Camp's randomised drops, the most common pulls are Potion (in the copper chest) at about 96%, Map (in the copper chest) at about 75.6%, Copper Ingot (in the copper chest) at about 75.6%, and Gold Ingot (in the copper chest) at about 75.6%. At the other end of the odds sit the jackpot items: Iron Axe (in the copper chest) at roughly 12.5% and Iron Boots (in the copper chest) at roughly 12.5%, so opening multiple Abandoned Camp chests pays off over time.

What makes the Abandoned Camp genuinely worth the trip is a set of exclusive rewards you cannot get reliably anywhere else - Abandoned Camp Map, Straw Bed, and White Cushion - so this is the place to come for them.

The Abandoned Camp has no mobs that spawn as part of the structure itself, so the danger is environmental rather than a garrison to fight.

The specific hazards to plan around: no mobs spawn with the camp itself and cobwebs in and around the tents slow you down. There is more to watch for too - a camp in a Pale Garden can have a Creaking nearby at night - so do not rush.

Every camp starts with a tent of white wool stairs on a frame of fences in the local wood, with straw beds and cobwebs inside and often a barrel or chest. A path leads from the tent to a campsite: a campfire with cushions around it and the camp's chests or barrels. Some campsites add a small patch of crops, a pond, a lantern or an oxidized copper golem statue, and trees of the biome grow at fixed spots in the pieces.

Other things you will notice as you explore: its own variant in each of the 18 biomes, with fences and trees of the local wood, a campfire with cushions around it at the campsite, and straw beds inside the tent.

Abandoned Camps came in Java Edition 26.3, the Wilderness Bound drop. The structure starts with a tent and attaches a campsite to it, so the same biome can give different layouts. The oxidized copper chest uses its own loot table: it always holds one explorer map, to an Ancient City, Trial Chambers, Mineshaft, Desert Pyramid, Jungle Pyramid, Warm Ocean Ruins or Woodland Mansion. The common chests always hold one Abandoned Camp Map, which leads to a camp in one of eight biomes: Bamboo Jungle, Cherry Grove, Birch Forest, Dappled Forest, Flower Forest, Pale Garden, Swamp or Windswept Forest. Straw beds let you sleep through the night once without setting your spawn point.
