Desert Pyramid

The Desert Pyramid is a sandstone temple hiding a booby-trapped treasure vault beneath its floor. It generates in the Overworld, exclusively within the Desert biome, which makes the Desert Pyramid moderately uncommon to come across as you explore.

Expect to find the Desert Pyramid between about Y 60 and Y 75, so set your search to that elevation. Desert pyramids only generate in desert biomes and are large enough to spot from the surface, though they occasionally end up partly swallowed by dunes. Each one is a fixed, hand-designed build rather than a randomised assembly.

Minecraft 1.3.1 brought it into the game, and its signature feature is straightforward: sandstone pyramid with orange terracotta.

On Java Edition the quickest method is the command /locate structure minecraft:desert_pyramid, which prints the coordinates of the nearest Desert Pyramid and the distance to it.

Without commands, head for a Desert biome where the Desert Pyramid generates and search the Y 60 to 75 band. Because it is moderately uncommon, expect to cover some ground between Desert Pyramid sightings.

Use /locate structure minecraft:desert_pyramid. Found in desert biomes. Large sandstone pyramids are visible from a distance. Dig down through the center blue terracotta block to find the treasure room.

Once inside, four chests sit in a sunken room directly below the central blue terracotta block, ringed around a stone pressure plate wired to nine blocks of TNT. The chests share the desert-pyramid loot table, which is one of only a few sources of the Enchanted Golden Apple from natural generation.

Among the Desert Pyramid's randomised drops, the most common pulls are Gunpowder at about 59%, Bone at about 59%, Rotten Flesh at about 59%, and Enchanted Book (random) at about 24%. At the other end of the odds sit the jackpot items: Enchanted Golden Apple at roughly 2% and Diamond Horse Armor at roughly 7.0%, so opening multiple Desert Pyramid chests pays off over time.

What makes the Desert Pyramid genuinely worth the trip is one exclusive reward you cannot get reliably anywhere else: Dune Armor Trim Smithing Template.

The Desert Pyramid has no mobs that spawn as part of the structure itself, so the danger is environmental rather than a garrison to fight.

The specific hazards to plan around: TNT trap triggered by pressure plate in treasure room and can destroy all loot if triggered. There is more to watch for too - sometimes buried in sand - so do not rush.

Above ground it is a stepped sandstone pyramid with orange terracotta accents and a decorative blue-and-orange floor motif. The treasure is hidden: break the central coloured block and drop into a vault holding four chests around a pressure-plate trap.

Other things you will notice as you explore: hidden treasure room below floor, TNT trap under pressure plate, and four chests in treasure room.

Always mine the pressure plate in the treasure room before stepping on it or the TNT beneath will explode, destroying the chests and loot. The pyramid can sometimes generate partially buried in sand.
