Pillager Outpost

The Pillager Outpost is a fortified dark-oak watchtower garrisoned by an endlessly respawning pillager patrol. It generates in the Overworld, across 9 biome types - Plains, Desert, Savanna, Taiga, Snowy Plains, Meadow, Sunflower Plains, Grove, and Cherry Grove - which makes the Pillager Outpost moderately uncommon to come across as you explore.

The Pillager Outpost's generation height runs from around Y 60 up to Y 90, a useful filter when you start hunting. Outposts use the same spacing logic as villages and deliberately try to spawn close to them, setting up the raid loop where a captured Bad Omen is carried into the nearest settlement. They share the flat, temperate biome list that villages use.

It was introduced in Minecraft 1.14, and the detail that defines it at a glance is simple: tall watchtower structure.

On Java Edition the quickest method is the command /locate structure minecraft:pillager_outpost, which prints the coordinates of the nearest Pillager Outpost and the distance to it.

Without commands, head for one of the Pillager Outpost's biomes (Plains, Desert, Savanna, Taiga, Snowy Plains, Meadow, Sunflower Plains, Grove, and Cherry Grove) and search the Y 60 to 90 band. Because it is moderately uncommon, you will usually pass a few biomes before a Pillager Outpost appears.

Use /locate structure minecraft:pillager_outpost. They generate near villages in the same biomes. Look for tall dark oak towers on the horizon.

Once inside, the lootable chest sits at the top of the main tower, and pillagers continue to spawn inside the outpost's bounding box until the area is lit or the spawn cap is filled, so clearing it permanently means flooding it with light.

Among the Pillager Outpost's randomised drops, the most common pulls are Dark Oak Log at about 67%, Crossbow at about 50%, Goat Horn at about 50%, and Arrow at about 40%. At the other end of the odds sit the jackpot items: Enchanted Book (random) at roughly 11% and Sentry Armor Trim at roughly 25%, so opening multiple Pillager Outpost chests pays off over time.

What makes the Pillager Outpost genuinely worth the trip is a set of exclusive rewards you cannot get reliably anywhere else - Sentry Armor Trim Smithing Template and Goat Horn - so this is the place to come for them.

Expect to face Pillager and Pillager Captain here, sometimes more than one at once.

The specific hazards to plan around: continuous pillager spawning and killing the captain gives Bad Omen. There is more to watch for too - crossbow attacks from range - so do not rush.

The centrepiece is a tall log-and-plank tower topped by a single chest. Around its base sit smaller props: tatter-flag tents, a target-practice block, iron-barred cages that sometimes hold a trapped allay or an iron golem, and stray logs. There is no enclosed interior to clear, only the tower and its surrounding yard.

Other things you will notice as you explore: pillagers spawn continuously, dark oak construction, and target blocks and cages.

Killing a pillager captain gives the Bad Omen effect, which triggers a raid when entering a village. Allays found in cages can be freed and are useful for item sorting.
