Witch Hut

The Witch Hut is a tiny stilted swamp shack that is the only structure a witch calls home. It generates in the Overworld, exclusively within the Swamp biome, which makes the Witch Hut moderately uncommon to come across as you explore.

The Witch Hut's generation height runs from around Y 60 up to Y 70, a useful filter when you start hunting. Swamp huts are restricted to swamp (and mangrove-adjacent swamp) biomes and use a wide spacing, so they are scattered and easy to miss among the murky terrain. The hut itself is small, but its mob-spawning bounding box reaches into the water and air around it.

Minecraft 1.4.2 brought it into the game, and its signature feature is straightforward: small wooden hut on stilts.

On Java Edition the quickest method is the command /locate structure minecraft:swamp_hut, which prints the coordinates of the nearest Witch Hut and the distance to it.

Without commands, head for a Swamp biome where the Witch Hut generates and search the Y 60 to 70 band. Because it is moderately uncommon, expect to cover some ground between Witch Hut sightings.

Once inside, there is no loot chest here. The reward is structural: the resident witch and the guaranteed cauldron, crafting table, and flower pot you can reclaim.

Some rewards here are guaranteed every time: Cauldron (1), Crafting Table (1), and Flower Pot (1). Those are not random rolls - the Witch Hut always provides them, which is a big part of why it is worth seeking out.

Expect to face Witch inside or around the Witch Hut.

The specific hazards to plan around: witch throws harmful potions and swamp terrain is difficult to navigate.

Four spruce-log stilts hold a single-room shack above the swamp water. Inside you will find a cauldron (sometimes pre-filled with a random potion), a crafting table, a red-mushroom flower pot, and a resident witch. A black cat also spawns on or near the hut.

Other things you will notice as you explore: cauldron with random potion, crafting table inside, and flower pot with mushroom.

Witch huts are the only place where witches naturally spawn. This makes them valuable for witch farms, which produce redstone, glowstone, and other potion ingredients. The bounding box extends below and around the hut for spawning purposes.
