Woodland Mansion

The Woodland Mansion is a colossal multi-floor mansion crawling with illagers and dotted with secret rooms. It generates in the Overworld, exclusively within the Dark Forest biome, which makes the Woodland Mansion one of the rarest structures in the game to come across as you explore.

Height-wise the Woodland Mansion sits in the Y 60 to Y 80 band, which narrows down where to look. Mansions only generate in dark forest biomes and use an extremely wide spacing, so the nearest one is routinely thousands - sometimes over ten thousand - blocks from world spawn. A Woodland Explorer Map bought from a cartographer villager is often the fastest way to pin one down.

It was introduced in Minecraft 1.11, and the detail that defines it at a glance is simple: massive three-story wooden structure.

On Java Edition the quickest method is the command /locate structure minecraft:mansion, which prints the coordinates of the nearest Woodland Mansion and the distance to it.

Without commands, head for a Dark Forest biome where the Woodland Mansion generates and search the Y 60 to 80 band. Because it is one of the rarest structures in the game, a Woodland Mansion can sit a very long way off, so gear up for a serious trip.

Use /locate structure minecraft:mansion. Very rare, often thousands of blocks from spawn. Buy a Woodland Explorer Map from a cartographer villager, or use the locate command. Found only in dark forest biomes.

Once inside, loot chests are scattered through the mansion's many rooms rather than pooled in one vault, and several are tucked inside secret rooms you have to break into. The standout reward is not in a chest at all: every evoker drops a Totem of Undying when killed.

Among the Woodland Mansion's randomised drops, the most common pulls are Vex Armor Trim at about 50%, Lead at about 29.0%, Redstone Dust at about 26%, and Diamond Hoe at about 22%. At the other end of the odds sit the jackpot items: Enchanted Golden Apple at roughly 4% and Diamond Chestplate at roughly 8%, so opening multiple Woodland Mansion chests pays off over time.

What makes the Woodland Mansion genuinely worth the trip is a set of exclusive rewards you cannot get reliably anywhere else - Totem of Undying, Vex Armor Trim Smithing Template, and Allays - so this is the place to come for them.

Expect to face Vindicator, Evoker, Vex, and Allays here, sometimes more than one at once.

The specific hazards to plan around: Vindicators deal heavy melee damage and Evokers summon vexes that fly through walls. There is more to watch for too - large size means mobs can surprise you and far from spawn, long trek back - so do not rush.

Three storeys of dark-oak halls, bedrooms, dining rooms, and storage connect through corridors and staircases. Procedurally chosen rooms add variety - a fake End-portal room, an arena, a tree-chopping room, conduit and obsidian display rooms, and wool pixel-art of mobs - while hidden rooms conceal extra chests, including diamond blocks in the rarer ones.

Other things you will notice as you explore: randomly generated rooms with unique designs, secret rooms with hidden loot, and illager spawning throughout.

Woodland mansions are one of the rarest structures in the game, often generating 10,000+ blocks from spawn. Evokers always drop a Totem of Undying on death. The mansion contains many unique room types including a fake end portal room, a tree-chopping room, and a map room.
